Sedation Options: Oral Conscious and more. How can we make you more comfortable?
Because your comfort is a priority to us at King Dental Care we offer a range of sedation choices.
What is sedation?
Sedation is the treatment one receives to manage pain and, in some cases, fear when undergoing dental treatment. This ranges from anesthesia to light sedation (Nitrous Oxide or laughing gas) to more moderate sedation achieved with medications.
Why is sedations used?
Anxiety associated with dental care is common and sometimes overwhelming but does not have to stop anyone from having dental work done. Dental work that is continually put off will eventually become a much more serious, painful problem that cannot be ignored. Our staff is trained and ready to help deal with any anxiety in a caring manageable way. Let us know if you have anxiety associated with dental work and we will carefully go over your sedation options with you. You will never be rushed or pressured into treatment you are not ready for.
What types of sedation are there?
Those with and without anxiety issues benefit from our sedation options. Most are familiar with Nitrous Oxide that has been used for years to make procedures more comfortable. Today there is another option: Oral Conscious Sedation (OCS).
What is Oral Conscious Sedation?
We are proud to offer OCS at our Independence office. OCS is popular with many who are uncomfortable with dental procedures. Our very own Dr. King has had extensive special training in OCS and is certified to administer it. During OCS the patient is sedated and relaxed though able to respond to questions and commands and has control of all bodily functions. The patient feels no pain during and does not remember the procedure afterwards.
Who should consider OCS?
Anyone with a fear or phobia associated with dental work is a candidate for OCS. Additionally, those uncomfortable with their strong gag reflex and those with movement disorders preventing them from holding still without sedation benefit from OCS. Some might also choose to undergo OCS allowing for an extended visit to address many issues in one visit. What a great feeling to wake up with a new smile and needed dental work behind you. We know there is more to life than dentistry, OCS allows you to get in to the dentist and get it done and then move on with your life.
