Routine Check-Ups

How often should I come in for an exam?

An in-office dental exam and cleaning should be done every 6 months. These dental check-ups are a vital part of our pattern of care at King Dental Care. Bi-annual check ups are recommended by the American Dental Association and allow for not only a thorough cleaning that you could never get on your own, an exam can detect many health related problems that can arise. Oral health is tied directly to your overall health.

If I'm not in pain is a dental exam a waste of time?

A dental exam every 6 months is never a waste of time. Much like an investment, taking care of oral health can have big dividends.  A cleaning done by a hygienist not only leaves your mouth feeling refreshed and new, it can help prevent bacteria from gums and mouth from spreading to other areas of your body. This can be a risk to pregnant women in particular. Vitamin deficiencies, osteoporosis, diabetes and even cancer can have symptoms your dentist would notice during your bi-annual exam.

Panoramic jaw x-rays done by dentists as part of a thorough exam can even expose calcified plaque in vessels that would cause a future stroke.

Even with all of the benefits to dental exams, the most obvious benefit is the satisfaction and confidence you stand to gain from having clean well cared for teeth.

Will my dental insurance pay for an exam?

Regular and frequent exams also have the positive effect of saving money and time in the long run by catching problems while they are small and require only minor work.

Insurance companies know this and in most cases cover your regular exams and x-rays without a co-pay. Our front office staff is happy to help with any insurance concerns you might have and can let you know what to expect from your insurance company. You'll find our phone numbers and hours on the far left.

What if it’s been years since my last exam?

At King Dental we understand that in many cases routine check-ups have been put off for a variety of reasons. We hope this will not stop you from beginning a good habit by calling for a check-up today. We are not interested in dwelling on past neglect or lecturing you. No matter the condition of your teeth right now we will work with you until you have that satisfaction that comes from a well cared for smile.
